The City of New Orleans selected Bayou Phoenix, led by local businessman Troy Henry, to redevelop the former Six Flags amusement park in New Orleans East.
This comes after an overwhelming wave of community support for the developer from residents and community leaders. Initially, Bayou Phoenix scored lower during the last round of proposal evaluations, compared to its competitor for the contract Kiernan West and SHIELD 1.
The 227-acre site after redevelopment would include: a hotel, water park, amusement park, sports complex, a logistics hub and mega travel center.
The other project once on the table from Kiernan West and SHIELD 1, a Colorado-based foundation launched by Drew Brees, Saints linebacker Demario Davis pulled out of negotiations for the bid.
The former Six Flags site has remained vacant for more than 15 years.
