A group of teens from Terrebonne Parish was detained in the early hours of Sunday after allegedly attacking and robbing homeless individuals in the New Orleans French Quarter.
New Orleans Police Department officials reported that Leland Pugh and Alexis Lovell, both 18, along with three other minors, were apprehended after being observed assaulting a sleeping person in the area. The victim, identified as a 36-year-old man, was attacked and subsequently taken to the hospital.
The group then encountered a second victim. These teens reportedly stole the individual’s backpack and fled, only to be later tracked to the Mississippi River park area by law enforcement.
The initial victim is receiving treatment at a hospital for injuries incurred during the incident. The suspects face charges, including two counts each of armed robbery and battery.
Additionally, Pugh and Lovell face charges related to the kidnapping of a juvenile, with each held on separate bonds totaling $450,000 and $150,000 respectively. Information on the minors is still pending release.
